Selection
Interested applicants who meet the eligibility requirements may participate in the selection process, which takes place in three rounds, as follows:
ROUND 1:
This round includes a preliminary online application and three essay questions, which must be completed and submitted within 5 days of starting the application.

To complete and submit the online application, it is not enough to simply create an account on the AIS platform and complete the consent form. All sections of the application must be completed, including responses to the three essay questions.
ROUND 2:
After submitting the Round 1 online application, students will be invited within 24 hours to take an online English language test.
ROUND 3:
This round will begin in November 2026 and will include a group interview and an individual interview, three additional essay questions, and an online application. To complete and submit the online application, it is not enough to simply access it on the AIS platform. All sections must be completed, including responses to the three essay questions and the completion and upload of all required forms.
After submitting the application, in both Round 1 and Round 3, all applicants will receive a confirmation email and an application code. If this confirmation email is not received, the application will not be considered submitted and registered.
Post-Recruitment:
After the recruitment period closes, all applications are reviewed in their entirety in the United States by several committees of specialists. No selection takes place in Romania. Individual feedback cannot be provided at any stage of the selection process, regardless of the outcome.
The results of the selection process are expected to be announced in April–May 2027.
After accepting their status, finalists and alternates begin preparing for departure. This includes obtaining a U.S. visa, receiving the required immunizations, completing any other required documents, and receiving their placement.
All finalists are required to participate in a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) before traveling to the United States.
Selected finalists will depart for the United States in August 2027 and return to Romania in May or June 2028.
FLEX 2027-2028 Program Timeline
The selection process followed the schedule below:
October 2026: Completion and submission of the online application and English language test.
November 2026 – January 2027: Notification of semifinalists; individual interview, English language test, and completion of the full application.
April 2027 – May 2027: Announcement of final results, including finalists and alternates.
August 2027 – September 2027: Participants travel to the United States.
May 2028 – June 2028: Participants return to Romania.
ATTENTION!
Participation in the FLEX Global tests is completely free, with no registration, testing or other fees. Also, the voluntary interruption of the program, for personal reasons of the student, does not involve any costs.
The FLEX Global English language test is unique and cannot be equated with other language proficiency certificates. At the same time, it is not necessary for applicants to hold an English language certificate to participate.
The families of the Romanian particpants are not obliged to host another child for the duration of the FLEX Global Program.
Host families in the USA are carefully selected by specialized placement organizations, which rigorously verify them from various perspectives. These families may or may not have children, live in large, medium, or small communities, and may be of varying ages. The choice or proposal of a host family by the participant is not possible.
The Program is equally open to all students, including those with disabilities
Eligibility Criteria
FLEX Global is a merit-based, open competition offered at no cost to applicants who meet the following requirements. Students may only apply once to the program during a given recruitment cycle.
Eligible applicants must:
Be born between July 15, 2009, and July 15, 2012, and be in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade;
At the time of application, be enrolled in and attending a high school in Romania;
Have good academic standing;
Have previously studied English and demonstrate English language proficiency at the time of application;
Meet the eligibility requirements for obtaining a U.S. visa;
Be Romanian citizens and be able to obtain an international passport in Romania.
Not eligible are those who:
Do not meet the above criteria;
Have stayed in the U.S. for 90 days or more in the last five (5) years;
Their family (or a family member):
has applied or is applying to immigrate to the USA;
have made plans to emigrate or have already emigrated to the USA.
